About Me
Hi! My name is Kayla Joseph and I'm a recent graduate from SUNY Old Westbury with a BA in Media and Communications.
In college, I started out as a writing intern at my school's newspaper, OW Catalyst. There, I wrote articles covering campus, national, and international news. Several of my articles received honors at the Media Arts Celebration (MAC) awards at Old Westbury.

In 2023, I won a "Best News Feature Story" MAC award for her article "The Future of Creativity: How AI is Changing Art." I've received nominations for "Best Opinion Piece" for "The Greenhouse: Advocating for a Sustainable Future" in 2024 and "How to Celebrate Women's History Month" in 2023. I've also received nominations for "Best News Feature Story" for "A Look into Black History: The Birth of House Music" and "From Mentee to Mentor: Meet Terry Phebe" in 2024.

In Fall 2023, I served as one of the OW Catalyst managing editors. My main responsibilities as a managing editor were editing articles, but I also mentored interns, wrote personal articles, led writing workshops and completed administrative tasks.

In that same year, I also interned at my college's Media Innovation Center (OW MIC) There, I worked on various projects, including filming content for college wide events or helping my peers work on personal projects.

In addition to the OW Catalyst and OW MIC, my work is also featured in NAYA Magazine, a publication that celebrates prominent Asian and Pacific Islander figures.
